At Babes & Bellies, Long Beach's warm, modern pregnancy studio, our 3D, 4D, and HD ultrasound sessions give you and your family a real-time look at your little one — their face, their movements, even a yawn or a stretch — in an unhurried space built for bonding, not rushing.
These sessions are elective and non-diagnostic, designed purely for connection and keepsakes. They're a beautiful complement to your pregnancy journey, not a replacement for the ultrasounds and check-ins from your prenatal care provider — we always encourage you to keep those appointments on schedule.
Q: What's the Difference Between 3D, 4D & HD Ultrasound?
If you've seen these terms used interchangeably, you're not alone — most families do the same thing, and honestly, that's okay. In practice, most of our sessions blend all three, so you get the best of each: crisp stills and live motion, in the highest clarity our equipment offers.

When to Book Your Session
For the clearest 3D/4D/HD images, we recommend booking between 27 and 32 weeks — by then, baby's features are well developed, but there's usually still enough room and amniotic fluid for a great view.

2nd Trimester — our Little QD's package (weeks 18–24) lets you watch your baby grow — full-body movements, tiny stretches, and more room to plan around a gender-reveal moment.

3rd Trimester — facial features are more developed, which tends to give the clearest, most detailed 3D/4D/HD images — the "chubby cheeks and tiny expressions" stage many families love most.
Every pregnancy (and every baby's favorite position) is a little different, so our team can help you think through timing when you book, based on how things are going for you.
Heads up: if you're looking for an early heartbeat check instead, that's a different, anytime session — not tied to this timing.
The Babes & Bellies Experience
Babes & Bellies isn't just an ultrasound studio — we're a pregnancy and family experience destination. Beyond your 3D/4D/HD session, families come to us for prenatal and postnatal massage, belly facials, and belly and baby casting keepsakes, all under one roof. It's a rare combination in Long Beach, and it means your relationship with us doesn't have to end when the ultrasound does.
Bring the people you want in the room. In addition to mom and dad, our studio comfortably fits up to 10 guests — if you're planning a bigger celebration, just reach out to us directly and we'll help you plan around it.

Is a 3D, 4D, or HD ultrasound the same as my doctor's ultrasound?
No. Our sessions are elective and non-diagnostic — they're designed for bonding and keepsakes, not medical screening. Please keep all appointments with your prenatal care provider; our sessions are meant to complement that care, not replace it.
Can I find out my baby's gender during this session?
Yes — gender determination is available starting at 15 weeks and is included in packages like Power to The Bump and Mini Bump.
What's the difference between a 3D and 4D image?
